A brighter future for Erith

Topping Out Ceremony

Erith Park regeneration reaches the top

Published 7th March 2014 | Press Releases

The £120m regeneration of the Larner Road estate in Erith reached a significant milestone this week. Wates Living Space and Orbit South hosted a ‘topping out’ ceremony to mark construction of the first phase of the scheme reaching the uppermost point.

The topping out ceremony is a long-standing building tradition historically held to bring good luck to a new development. The event saw staff from Wates and Orbit being hoisted to the top of the development with representatives of the Erith Park core resident group. Residents were presented with an engraved trowel and ‘topped off’ the structure by trowelling mortar into the final space.

Andy Hobart, Managing Director of Wates Living Space, commented: “This milestone demonstrates the excellent progress we are making in the transformation of Erith Park – with family homes, market sale, local business, supply chain and community opportunities front of mind at all times. Construction is continuing apace and we are on track to complete the scheme’s first homes by the end of the year.”

Vivien Knibbs, Executive Director of Orbit South, commented: “We’re delighted with the progress being made at Erith Park and look forward to welcoming the first residents into their new homes later this year. Once complete, Erith Park will completely transform this part of London, bringing considerable investment into the area and creating homes which people can really be proud of.”

Cllr Linda Baily, Bexley’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, said: “Congratulations to everyone involved in getting Erith Park to where it is already. To see all the years of planning and the aspirations of everyone involved in this project becoming a reality is such a rewarding experience.”
