New ball court open for the Erith community!
Published 7th April 2014 | Press Releases
As part of the large scale regeneration taking place at Erith Park, Orbit Homes, Wates Living Space and London Borough of Bexley have worked in partnership to deliver a brand new ball court for the people of Erith.
Due to regeneration work taking place at Erith Park, the old ball court on the former Larner Road estate needed to be demolished. During the consultation for the new Erith Park, people said that leisure space was really important to them. So when the regeneration team put the plans together the plans for the redevelopment, it was made a top priority. To make the ball court easily accessible for the entire community, the team decided to locate the new ball court within the recreation ground near the play park just north of Erith Park. This means that everyone from Erith can use and enjoy this great facility, including the new families which will be moving on to Erith Park when the first homes are ready later this year.
London Borough of Bexley’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Leisure, Cllr Don Massey says; "I am delighted that we have been able to incorporate this great new facility into the brilliant Erith Park regeneration project. We know from consultation that this space will be well used by residents new and old. Leisure space is an important part of any new development and this space is a real plus for those families about to move into their new homes. I look forward to seeing it in use."
Francois Jensen, Orbit’s Regeneration Community Engagement Officer says; “We’re thrilled to have completed the new ball court and hope that everyone who uses it enjoys this great new community resource. Everyone in Erith is welcome to come along and use it. We’re looking forward to providing even more green space when the new Dell is completed in the next couple of weeks.”
Andy Fancy, regional managing director of Wates Living Space, adds: “When we begin work in any community, we make it a priority to ensure that our presence makes a positive difference to the lives of the people that live there. Knowing that residents of Erith place such importance on the leisure space that surrounds them, we wanted ensure that the redevelopment plans reflected this. It is with pleasure that we have been able to deliver a brand new ball court and hope that it brings great enjoyment to those that use it.”
The first homes at Erith Park are currently being built by Wates Living Space and will be ready later this Autumn. Once complete, the affordable homes will be owned and managed by Orbit South. The development will include a mix of homes for affordable rent, private market sale and shared ownership.
